About
Expanding Access to Care. Together.
The Behavioral Health Network of Kansas (BHNK) is a nonprofit coalition of organizations working together to expand access to behavioral health and substance use recovery services across the state.
We recognize that lasting recovery and wellbeing depend on more than treatment alone. Safe housing, employment opportunities, peer coaching, transportation, and family support all play critical roles, but many of these services fall outside traditional funding streams.
Our Purpose
BHNK was established to close behavioral health service gaps through collaboration, innovation, and advocacy.
Together, we champion investment in non-Medicaid covered services, support peer-led recovery initiatives, and promote community partnerships that strengthen Kansas families and communities.
By aligning policy and practice, BHNK is driving system-wide change that ensures every Kansan has access to a full continuum of behavioral health care.
Our Mission
The Behavioral Health Network of Kansas is committed to collaborative action that expands access to essential substance use disorder treatment and behavioral health services across Kansas. We recognize that true recovery and wellbeing demand more than Medicaid-funded programs alone. Critical supports such as safe housing, job training, peer recovery coaching, transportation, and family counseling often fall outside traditional funding streams—yet they are vital for lasting success.
Our mission is to actively close these gaps with the help of supporters, community partners, and policymakers to develop new funding sources, pilot innovative service models, and advocate for system-wide change. We work tirelessly to:
-
Promote investment in non-Medicaid covered services, such as recovery housing, supported employment, and transportation assistance.
-
Champion peer-led initiatives like recovery coaching and community navigators that provide critical, culturally responsive support.
-
Build strategic partnerships to extend support to families, caregivers, and entire communities impacted by addiction and mental health challenges.
-
Drive public awareness that highlights unmet needs and mobilize grassroots support for comprehensive and sustainable funding solutions.
The Behavioral Health Network of Kansas believes that access to a full continuum of care is a right, not a privilege. Through ongoing support, innovation, and collaboration, we will make it a reality.
